Flemington set to rock on Super Saturday

5 March 2026 Written by VRC

Flemington Racecourse is preparing for a massive Super Saturday this weekend on 7 March, with a full day of exceptional racing, live music, family entertainment and the much-anticipated return of Fashions on the Field.

Families won’t want to miss a special performance by the Wiggles Sounds System featuring John, Caterina, Tree of Wisdom, Wags and Dorothy lighting up the stage in a high-energy show. When the last horse crosses the line, the excitement shifts to the Front Lawn, where Australian rock legend Jon Stevens will turn up the volume and bring the day to a thrilling finish with an unforgettable live performance.

Autumn Fashions on the Field returns to Flemington's iconic lawns on Super Saturday, bringing a refreshed autumn fashion focus and over $15,000 in prizes across categories including Family Racewear, Best Dressed, Best Suited and the People's Choice Millinery Award. Hosted by Kris Smith and Seven News Melbourne presenter Karina Carvalho, the competition is open to stylish racegoers, families, and millinery lovers alike, with judging rewarding fun, fashionable presentation, grooming, and overall style and originality. Family Racewear entries require at least one adult (18+) and one child (under 18), led by a nominated adult Team Captain.

Super Saturday will showcase a blockbuster racing program featuring two Group 1 showpieces, cementing the day as one of the most anticipated on the autumn calendar. The Group 1 $2 million Yulong Newmarket Handicap (1200m) – often hailed as the Melbourne Cup for sprinters – has drawn a powerful field, with all eyes on dual Group 1 winner Tentyris. Champion jockey Mark Zahra makes his long‑awaited return to Flemington from a fractured leg and is set for a strong book of rides, including Tentyris.

The star power continues with the Group 1 $2 million Sharp EIT All-Star Mile (1600m), which has rapidly become a premier autumn highlight since its introduction in 2019. Front‑running mare Pride of Jenni resumes following her Group 1 Empire Rose triumph during Cup Week, while defending champion Tom Kitten will be looking to go back‑to‑back.

As part of the “Own the Mile” All-Star Mile competition and in collaboration with Racing Victoria, 16 lucky owner ambassadors will have the chance to share in $200,000 in prize money and receive a rare opportunity to experience what it’s like to be an owner on one of racing’s biggest days.

International talent will add further prestige to the meeting, with globally recognised jockeys Hugh Bowman and Wayne Lordan riding at Flemington. Bowman - one of Australia’s most celebrated riders and now based in Hong Kong - will be chasing a major career milestone as he aims to win his 100th Australian Group 1.

The VRC will pay tribute to 1985 Melbourne Cup-winning jockey Pat Hyland on Super Saturday, with jockeys to wear black armbands in his memory.

The 2026 Flemington Autumn Carnival concludes on TAB Australian Cup Day on Saturday 28 March. For more information on the Flemington Autumn Carnival or to purchase tickets, which start at $30 with children under 18 free, visit vrc.com.au.
